Cinderella-Widescreen-Wallpaper-cinderella-2015

I had the opportunity to go see a special screening of this movie a few days ago.  Cinderella is a live-action film inspired by the classic Disney tale starring Cate Blanchett, Lily James, Richard Madden and Helena Bonham Carter.  The movie opens up March 13, 2015 in the USA.

The tale of Cinderella is a classic that has been released in a few versions.   My favorite used to be Ever After.  I seriously thought no other version could compare.  However, after having seen the new version with the brilliant performances of Cate Blanchett and Lily James, I can say that I have a new favorite.

The part that I loved the most in this version is the premise:  “Have courage and be kind.”  Making decisions seemed to be the second plot of this tale.  Some decisions were so detrimental that gave the story a tragedy feeling.  It was almost at the end where the decisions being made by the characters were redeemed by the premise of the tale.

The story has a few twists that I didn’t expect, especially the humanizing of the stepmother character (Cate Blanchett).   There is a scene between her and Cinderella where she talks about her pain and troubles and how she decided to fix them, so the assumption of the viewer is that the step-mom became evil because she had no choice.  Her honesty was comprised in such a dialogue that for a moment she almost made me look at her with compassion.   But make no mistake, from that point forward, she only becomes darker and wicked.

What to say about the Prince (Richard Madden)?  The chemistry between him and Cinderella is undeniable.  The way they look at each other and move around each other is contagious.  The candid way in which both find themselves talking to each other in the woods is captivating and exciting.  In the story the Prince is also challenged to make a decision to choose between the kingdom or love.  It was nice to see that he is troubled throughout the movie by this decision not because he wants power but because he loves his father, the king, and he wants to do right by him.  I liked that there were close ups of his face highlighting his blue eyes every time he was with Cinderella.  The way he looks at her is the way a woman would like to see herself reflected in the eyes of her beloved.  He was easy on the eyes and I loved every scene of the movie with him, with the exception of his white outfit.  The cut on his jacket and pants at the waist was a bit unflattering.  I kept thinking he had a bit of a belly.  Perhaps I am wrong.  When you see the movie, write me back and let me know what you think of the #pantsandjacket.

The part that took my breath away is when Cinderella (Lilly James) also makes the decision about what to do with her pain and suffering and she turns to her step-mother, the cause of all her troubles, and with one sentence she unleashes the miracles and magic that her mother told her that kindness would bring.  I will not spoil this scene for those who want to be surprised, I will only say that the decision that she took was in fact a spiritual law called forgiveness that breaks the bondage of confusion and spite and sets a person free.  For this scene alone the movie stole my heart.

Two things were engraved in my mind about this movie, the decisions that we make will forge our future, our character and our destiny.  The second thing was that in order to be kind you need a lot of strength and Light into your life.  Choosing kindness will always bring the best out of you and will take you to places you have never being before.  But kindness is not for the faint of heart.  Kindness is for those who want to be brave.   This is a lesson that needs to be told to our children because it will illuminate their path of life.  It will also give them a vision how to have strength when walking through problems in life.  This is a movie that will show you how to have courage and be kind.  Take your kids to see it, you will not regret it.
